NORTH MALAITA MP'S EARLY EXIT FROM PRISON DID NOT INVOLVE POLITICS

This is what the government has to say in relation to Jimmy Rasta Lusibaea's parole...

[SIBC News, 15 January 2011] - Politics had no role in the early release of the North Malaita MP says the Prime Minister's Special Secretary, Andrew Muaki.

Mr Muaki made the statement in response to public concerns that political pressure had forced the Parole Board to approve Lusibaea's exit from the Rove Correctional Centre yesterday.

The Special Secretary to the Prime Minister told SIBC News last night that Lusibaea had only used enacted laws to ensure his early release from prison.

The Special Secretary to the Prime Minister further encouraged other accused, criminal offenders and prisoners to engage a good lawyer to ensure their early release.

Meanwhile, the grounds for Jimmy Lusibaea's early release from prison still remains unclear.

But Private lawyer, Charles Ashley told Solomon Star newspaper that the Parole Board had released Lusibaea on license.

Mr Ashley, who will represent Lusibaea at a judiciary review of his case under the Amnesty Act, had however refused to further comment on the circumstances surrounding the conditions of his client's release.

The review is scheduled to come before the High Court next month.
