Solomon Islands registers first win in U-17 Qualifiers

Solomon Islands mens U-17 soccer team have registered their first win with a 2 - 1 defeat of New Caledonia.

The game started off strongly for both teams as they were both technically and physically matched.

However Solomon Islands gets the better of the opening minutes when John Bitiai netted their first goal home with a header from a Junior Albert cross.

New Caledonia however equalised a few minutes later after  when they capitalised on a breakdown of communication at the Solomon Islands defence.

Solomon Islands had other chances to increase their scoresheet before the half time break but they were not utilised.

Just two minutes into the second half Solomon Islands scored their second goal from a corner kick when Atana Fa'arodo blasted the ball home in the scramble at the New Caledonia's goal mouth.

65 minutes into the game Bitiai of Solomon Islands was yellow-carded after he made a rushed tackle on one of the New Caledonians.

Few minutes later New Caledonian goalkeeper was red carded and sent off after the referee says that he had handled the ball outside of the 18-yard box.

His teammate Marvin Drawilo replaced him in goal and managed to keep out last dying minutes pressure from Solomon Islands strikers.
